Statements:
- I used to stress some links between my work and cognitive sciences. As well to
indicate an
alleged affiliation with a cosmogonist system as Taoism. Nowadays, I'm happy
when I don't need
to supply concepts and a lot of explanation. I feel especially satisfied when
uneducated people are
attracted by my open proposals and not asking for a key and not bothering too
much about what's
behind. Somewhere, I do believe that I'm working out a small piece of the Garden
of Utopia, where
human brain is expanding and favouring harmony and peace. | pol knots – 2003 |
-My
main intention is to foil cognitive routines so firmly anchored all over the
world. In my opinion,
artists are engaged in an emancipation process and they show less and less up as
consensus producers.
Since recently, they deliberately take up a duty of dissensus, with all the
inherent risks. Contemporary
art is carrying ruptures and is not any longer focused on the relations to power
and authority, nor on
anthropocentric or aesthetic introspection. It's about new models of reasoning.
As for me, I invest/investigate
the field of cognitive sciences. I don't bring up representation, nor
illustration of this set of themes. It constitutes
my personal background. |

-The reference to Arcimboldo is illustrating how difficult it has been to bring
up new questions during all
the representative or figurative area. By evidence, this period for plasticians
is not finished yet. And more,
indeed, abstraction is not as abstract as it could be. There is still ambiguity
about concepts, figures, etc...
However, the fields of arts are not a constellation of consensus production
units. On the contrary. And it
is exactly within the spaces liberated from the old (obsolete?) questions about
representation that one can
find some material to develop and understand more about cognitive systems. That
supposes to invest less
and less time in Bad Painting and assimilated subjects and to put the highest
priority on more crucial themes. | pol knots – 2003 |
